Jörg Ritter has been working as University Music Director at Bonn University since 2014. During this time, new ensembles have been formed under his lead, such as Campus Brass, UniVox – the vocal ensemble of the university, the chamber orchestra and various chamber music groups, who have also shaped new formats with great success. Another emphasis lies on international collaborations. Worth mentioning here are performances by the symphony orchestras of the universities of Cambridge and Waseda.

 

In addition, Ritter is artistic director of the Berner Kammerchor (chamber choir Bern) and founder of the Bern Consort. From 2004 to 2008 he led the WDR Rundfunkchor Cologne, with which he had already been associated as a guest conductor since 2000. Since that time he has been continuously working with renowned ensembles such as the NDR choir, the SWR vocal ensemble, the BBC Singers, and orchestras like the Gürzenich Orchester Cologne, the orchestras of the WDR in Cologne, Capriccio Basel and others.

 

Ritter has directed productions of works in all genres of the choral repertoire for conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Semyon Bychkov, Sir Neville Marriner, Sir Roger Norrington or Michael Gielen. Numerous recordings for radio, television and CD document a broad spectrum of repertoire, which expressly includes modernism. In 2010, for example, he premiered Adriana Hölszky's opera Hybris at the Lisbon State Opera in cooperation with the Schwetzingen Festival. In 2008 he accepted a call as visiting professor for choral and orchestra conducting at the renowned Indiana University in Bloomington, which was followed by further intensive teaching activities at Yale, Boston and Cologne.

 

Jörg Ritter has made guest appearances at various festivals, for example in the Rheingau, in Dresden, at the music triennial in Cologne, at Carnegie Hall, and many more. He has won prizes at various competitions.
