Since 2015 I am an independent Junior Research Group leader in the German Center of Infection Research (DZIF) with a focus on novel antibiotics targets in staphylococci. Within DZIF, we translate results of our fundamental work on the cell biology of microbes, in particular the impact of antibiotics on the cellular organization of cell wall biosynthetic machineries. In this context, I am PI in the DFG-funded TR-SFB 261 “Antibiotic CellMAP”. Based on my broad experience in anaerobic metabolism, I want to shift my future DZIF focus on Microbial Interference mechanisms within the gut microbiome to evaluate innovative non-antibiotic strategies for the control of pathogens.
