Persian

The minor in Persian provides students with communicative skills and competence in working with Persian-language source texts based on extensive, communications-oriented training in modern Persian. Building on their work of the first two semesters, in semester three students acquire competence in working with modern and classical source texts, competence that is necessary for an academic career.

The minor encompasses three practical language modules where students learn the basic skills of speaking, listening comprehension, writing and reading of modern and classic Persian. Their pragmatic and communicative competencies are supported and accompanied by linguistics courses at a level corresponding to their academic level. In addition, the degree program gradually introduces students to work with Persian-language source texts. The language instruction is strongly practice-oriented, so that passive and active learning of the language are fostered to the same degree. The aim of this minor is to bring students to the point where they can work with Persian-language sources for purposes of literary criticism and historical analysis.

This subject must be combined with a second subject.
