Quality Assurance in Studying and Teaching
The University maintains a culture of continual reflection on the degree programs which it provides, in terms of the quality and organization of their curricula. This represents the basis for effective quality assurance in teaching and is requisite to satisfying superordinate external and internal requirements (see Guiding Principle 10).
The University of Bonn has also established procedures to ensure the constant evaluation and targeted development of the quality of teaching which it provides and the conditions established for studying. This represents a central commitment and derives implicitly from the core values and mission of the University. To this end, we moved in 2014 as part of an inter-faculty initiative, to draft a new evaluation policy. Working as part of an operative control cycle, we have established a university-wide procedure for the systematic analysis and quality assurance of teaching and studying to ensure their continual improvement. Evaluation project groups established for the various subjects conduct this procedure regularly for each degree program in a needs-driven fashion. Working with the results of student surveys and the evaluation of degree completion data, these groups formulate recommendations for curriculum development. This process is supported by the work of the Bonn Center for Higher Education (BZH), Teaching and Academic Planning division and the Center for Evaluation and Methodology (ZEM).
