Since March 2023, we are a new junior research group at the Institute of Microbiology and Biotechnology within the NRW Returning Scholars Programme. Our focus is to better understand viruses and their reproduction since the formation of new viral particles in the host cell is a highly complicated and crucial process for infection. High-resolution light microscopy is our preferred tool to visualise and measure the dynamics and mechanisms of virus replication. In particular, we observe how enveloped viruses efficiently assemble and disseminate new virus particles.
