The Strategy Paper on Sustainability at the University of Bonn has been released!

What are the five action areas in the Sustainability Strategy, and who are the actors driving the sustainable transformation process at the University? Take the quiz to test your knowledge and learn more about the sustainable transformation process at the University of Bonn.

We are giving away sustainable University of Bonn drinking bottles and other great prizes in a drawing among everyone who participates!

Public Climate School

"Climate, Education, Democracy"—that is the striking slogan of the Public School of Students for Future, opening again this year.

Over the course of a week, students for Future groups from all over Germany will be presenting a broad program on the climate crisis. And the local chapter, Students for Future Bonn, will be conducting its program throughout the entire month of November!

GreenScreen on November 7

The next GreenScreen film screening will be held on November 7, with an introduction from researchers whose work concerns aspects of sustainability relevant to the film shown.

The film shown this time around will be the 2009 British science fiction drama "Moon", which was the directorial debut of Duncan Jones. The introduction to the film will be given by Dr. Hendrik Hakenes, Professor of Economics at the Institute of Finance and Statistics.

When: Thursday, November 7, 2024 at 6 pm.

Where: Kino in der Brotfabrik cinema, Kreuzstraße 16, 53225 Bonn-Beuel

A talk will be held after watching the film together in the Brotfabrik, and we encourage everyone in the audience to join in the discussion, as engaging in dialogue is most important.

Tickets are available from Bonner Kinemathek.

GreenScreen is a film event held six times a year at the Brotfabrik cinema (located in an old bread baking factory), organized by the University of Bonn Team N (N for “Nachhaltigkeit” or “sustainability”) in partnership with Bonner Kinemathek and the Brotfabrik Bonn cultural center.

Sustainability Table Talk

Team N coridally invites you to an afert-lunch Sustainability Table Talk.

The Sustainability Table Talk is a conversation meet-up in a relaxed atmosphere where you can ask questions, share suggestions and talk about current sustainability issues at the University of Bonn. Team N (N for “Nachhaltigkeit” or “sustainability”) will be on hand at the event to stimulate dialogue with attending staff and students members.

Anyone interested in engaging in dialogue about sustainability is cordially invited to attend.

Exhibition visit and exchange on the Climate Plan 2035

What is the student body's position on the Bonn climate plan?

Participate in defining the positioning of the General Students’ Committee as part of an exhibition visit on a cozy evening out in the Old Town

The Ecology and University Policy departments of the General Students’ Committee invite you to participate in discussion of the climate plan of the City of Bonn to define the student body’s position in relation thereto.

As part of this, all interested students are cordially invited to attend a group exhibition visit with subsequent get-together in Bonn’s Old Town district.

When: November 13, 5:30 pm

Night Flea Market on November 14

Once again it is time our night flea market—everyone is invited to browse and discover little treasures!

The Green Office, Studierendenwerk Bonn and the General Students’ Committee are organizing the 7th Night Flea Market at Campo Mensa in Poppelsdorf. Clothing, electronic devices, books ... seize the opportunity to get rid of things you no longer need, or search for new treasures!

When: November 14, 2024, stand setup: 5:00 pm

Browse, buy and sell: 6:00 - 9:00 pm

Where: CAMPO-Mensa Poppelsdorf

Stand registration deadline is November 12—contact event@studierendenwerk-bonn.de.

Student registration is free of charge, but a 50 euro deposit is required per stand. The deposit is fully refunded once your stand is removed and the table area left clean. The deposit is due in cash at set-up.

Lecture on the climate crisis

The Climate Crisis is Annoying – Just Power Through?! ... or How Activism and Engagement Can Accelerate Transformation! 

Students for Future invites you to a lecture by Niko Froitzheim on the current situation of the climate crisis. Afterwards, two representatives of two local activist organizations and the transformation expert Dr. Gesa Maschkowski from Bonn4Future will give a presentation.

Healthy Campus Week, November 18-22

The second W Healthy Campus Bonneek of this year is coming up, offering a wide range of health-related activities in partnership with many different stakeholders.

On Wednesday, November 20 and Thursday November 21 (11 to 2 pm) the Action Days will be held at the CAMPO-Mensa, with activities to get involved in like a nutrition quiz and body composition analysis, along with lots of information to be gathered on nutrition and exercise – there's something for everyone going on during HCBN Week!

Fairtrade Coffee Bike on 26 November 2024

Treat yourself to a fair coffee break!

On 26 November, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, a special highlight awaits you in the arcade courtyard of the main building: the Fairtrade Coffee Bike! Enjoy free, sustainable, and fair-trade hot beverages—while supplies last.

  • Poster Exhibition: "We Create the Future! 2024" at the Bonn City Museum
    • In the "We Create the Future" project, young people are designing posters on sustainability in workshops held from April to November. These posters will be showcased in 2024 at the Bonn City Museum. More information can be found here.
  • Exhibition Series on the Bonn Climate Plan 2035
    • In collaboration with the Bonn Adult Education Center, the Program Office for a Climate-Neutral Bonn 2035 is offering a series of events for the first time. An overview of the events can be found here. 

Nachhaltiger November 2023

We would like to thank everyone who took part in the numerous exciting activities

  • Students for Future Bonn and the action week as part of the Public Climate School 2023
  • NEiS (NRW Consumer Center, funded by the Ministry of Agriculture and Consumer Protection of the State of NRW) for delicious, healthy and seasonal cooking inspiration in the form of short videos
  • Two upcycling workshops at the Bundeskunsthalle with audio cassettes and records, inspired by the exhibition "ALLES AUF EINMAL. POSTMODERNISM, 1967-1992"
  • Prof. Dr. Annette Scheersoi (Vice-Rector for Sustainability), PD Dr. Hedwig Pompe (International Centre for Advanced Studies) and Junior Prof. Dr. Julia Mink (Argelander Professor of Environmental Economics, Sustainability and Inequality) for the conception and organization of the interdisciplinary doctoral workshop on sustainability research
  • Healthy Campus Bonn with the Healthy Campus Week, which offered a sustainable, healthy menu and hands-on activities in the CAMPO canteen

  • The University of Bonn’s “Waste ABC”—a waste separation initiative that everyone can get involved in

There are many sides to sustainability. In “Nachhaltiger November” 2021, therefore, some exciting initiatives were once again organized with various partners. These point out how and where each of us can help foster a culture of sustainability at our University and in our daily lives.

  • Recycling cell phones in partnership with Mobile-Box
  • Vegan Healthy Campus Menu in the Campo Mensa
  • Week of events to mark the first anniversary of Fairtrade University Bonn
  • Science Slam "Sustainability" of the Green Office in partnership with NEiS (postponed to 22.04.2022)
