German Language Course (DaF) - B1.1

A Doctorate plusBIGS workshop offered by the Bonn Graduate Center 

This competence-based and action-oriented language course is aimed at doctoral students who want to cope with everyday life in German and, in particular, want to become competent in academic and work situations. Participants will attain the level B1.1 of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference)

The course is co-financed by STIBET-funds from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

Online Workshop

Wednesdays, from 6:00 p.m. till 7:30 p.m.

Starting from April 10, ending July 17, 2024

In addition, e-learning “vocabulary-package“ for self-learning totaling 20 hours

Participants who complete the entire course will receive a certificate confirming their attendance at the end of the semester. Missing two lessons will be excused.

Development of social and intercultural communicative competence in the target language, strengthening of learner autonomy and media competence.

Requirements
Your German language skills will be tested via the onSET online language placement test.
The German as a Foreign Language Section will send a TAN upon request for the placement test. The result of the placement test will be sent automatically. Based on this score, we will register you for the appropriate course.

Content

By the end of this course, participants can:

  • Understand some main points in longer conversations related to familiar topics regarding studying, internships, everyday campus life etc, provided clear, standard speech is used
  • Understand the main points of presentations and lectures and follow the basics of complex arguments, provided clear, standard speech is used and the topic is familiar
  • Cope with basic situations (e.g. react to basic requests, interact appropriately) likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken
  • Express themselves comprehensibly regarding familiar topics and communicate orally and in writing on study-related topics and topics of personal interest
  • Report on experiences and events, describe career plans and prospects and give short reasons or explanations for plans and intentions
  • Write emails to a public authority, summarising the key elements of a basic text – orally and in writing
  • Hold a short, prepared presentation on an everyday topic, describing basic graphs,
    statistics or diagrams
