Student status and similar matters

Leaves of absence

If you wish to pause your studies, you may request a leave of absence subject to certain conditions.

Deregistration

If you wish to discontinue your studies at the University of Bonn, you should deregister as a student.

Lost documents

Lost your student ID? This page will tell you how to get your most important documents replaced.

Data changes

Please notify the Student Registry immediately regarding any changes in your personal data (e.g. name, address). 

Re-registration

If you wish to continue your studies at the University of Bonn, you must re-register each semester.

You can use the following documents to provide evidence of your studies at the University of Bonn to the authorities or other institutions.

Changing subjects

If you wish to switch to a different subject, you should submit your request before the re-registration deadline.

Exchanging places with a student at another university

If you are enrolled in a state examination program in a higher program-related semester, you may be able to permanently swap places with a student at another university under certain conditions.

Accident insurance

Did you have an accident related to your studies?
If so, you are covered by statutory accident insurance and will need to report it. 

Examination Regulations

Study and examination regulations set out the ground rules for a degree program. They are legally binding and, among other things, reflect how a program is structured. For instance, they stipulate the admission requirements, study objectives, examination modalities, standard period of study and language of instruction. You will need to read your examination regulations carefully if you want to bring your degree program to a successful conclusion.

Student Registry

The Student Registry is responsible for handling applications, admissions and enrollments. It manages leaves of absence, deregistrations, data changes and semester fee payments as well as many other issues in student management.

Subject-specific study advisory services

The subject-specific study advisory services provide help with detailed questions concerning program contents and progression, modules and examination regulations, and the opportunities for setting academic priorities during your studies. You can also discuss questions about obtaining credit for coursework and examinations with them before submitting your application.

Examination authorities

The office of the examination authority (examination board) in charge of the relevant degree program is an important point of contact for all (newly enrolled) students. It is the right place to go to in order to register for your examinations or record your academic achievements.
