Economics students were particularly complementary about how their degree programs are organized (4.7 stars out of 5) and the general situation regarding their studies (4.2 stars out of 5). The courses offered (4.3 stars out of 5), the assistance provided by teachers (4.3 stars out of 5) and the support available on semesters abroad (4.2 stars out of 5) were also rated especially highly.
Meanwhile, law students reserved special praise for the support they received when preparing for examinations (4.2 stars out of 5), the availability of current and digital media in the library (4.3 stars out of 5) and assistance from teachers (3.9 stars out of 5). Turning to the fact-based results, students were particularly positive about the overall support given to them at the start of their studies (12 points out of 14) and when preparing for examinations (8 points out of 8). The two degree programs were thus among the best performers in the survey in all of these areas as well as a number of others.
With formats such as the Karrieretage, which are taking place at the moment (May 10–11) and which dovetail closely with teaching, as well as the further development of their curricula, the departments concerned are currently addressing those areas in which the two subjects are not yet leading the field, such as the practical focus of teaching (economics and law) and the appropriateness of the time allotted to degrees (economics). Other issues, such as the students’ desire to have digital and hybrid elements incorporated into their degree programs and the general setup of rooms (law), also form an integral part of the plans for the upcoming renovation work.
About the survey
A total of 93 economics and 353 law students took part. The full rankings are available at heystudium.de/ranking. Reflecting the views of some 120,000 students, the rankings prepared by the Centre for Higher Education (CHE) constitute the most comprehensive and detailed comparison of universities in German-speaking countries according to its organizer.
University rankings represent merely a snapshot and are always shaped by the methodology that they use. The University of Bonn would thus advise prospective students to draw on a wide range of information when making decisions about their studies and to use all available sources to this end. For instance, the University of Bonn provides online self-tests (“Self-Assessments”) for its subjects to provide study guidance. You can find more information on this here. The full range of degree programs is available here.
