HRK Audit: Internationalization of Universities
In 2017, the University of Bonn successfully passed the audit “Internationalization of Universities” by the German Rectors’ Conference (HRK). An international commission of experts took a close look at Bonn’s internationalization activities. An extensive self-report with contributions from the Rectorate, faculties and administration was followed by interviews with more than 40 persons. From this, the experts derived recommendations for future internationalization. In their report, the advisory team attests the University of Bonn “very good conditions”.
The University has set the right course with its six Transdisciplinary Research Areas and the principle of quality over quantity. Advantageous structures and offers for the further internationalization are present.
High international visibility is insured in particular through outstanding research areas, the high number of grants awarded by the European Research Council (ERC), the numerous Alexander von Humboldt Fellowships as well as international degree programs and graduate schools. The outstanding results in the most important university rankings also ensure visibility. The experts futhermore emphasized that the international location of Bonn promotes the internationalization efforts of the university.
The University of Bonn will use the HRK Re-Audit “Internationalization of Universities” (2018 to 2024) to implement all recommendations and internationalization actions within a structured process.
