SciComm FOCUS: Transformative Policy Advice

A workshop offered by the Human Resources Development

Would you like to use your academic expertise to inform political decision-making, but are you wondering how best to do this?

This seminar will give you the opportunity to gain an overview of the formats and methods of scientific policy advice. You will learn to better understand the political system and its dynamics, also in contrast to the scientific system, which follows different rules. We will also reflect on our own role as scientists and discuss the limits and pitfalls of scientific policy advice. The seminar will be rounded off with an insight into the principles of co-creative research design, which enables you to directly involve non-academic actors in your research processes.

Overview of the formats and contexts of scientific policy advice
Understanding the dynamics of the political system in contrast to the scientific system
Methods for increasing the effectiveness (impact) of scientific policy advice
Reflection on one's own role and attitude as a scientist in scientific policy advice
Limits, potential risks and pitfalls in scientific policy advice
Specific communication skills for the exchange with the target group of politicians
Principles of research designs that facilitate cooperation and circular knowledge exchange with non-academic stakeholders such as policy makers and administrators

Is there a charge for the event?

No. Human Resources Development will cover the costs.

An event is fully booked, is there a waiting list?

Yes, if an event is fully booked, we will put you on the waiting list. You will then move up if a place becomes available again in time before the start of the event.

Are the premises accessible without barriers?

The premises of Poppelsdorfer Allee 31-33 will be barrier-free in the near future. At the moment construction work ist still taking place. If required please contact us in advance.

Is childcare available during the event?

If you need childcare during an event, please contact the Family Office of the University of Bonn.

Are external persons also allowed to participate in the event?

In order to be able to participate in the training offers of the Human Resources Development of the University of Bonn, you must have an employment contract with the University of Bonn, be an enrolled PhD student, be active in research for the University of Bonn or be an associated member of a research network.

What does certificate or certificate of attendance mean?

For all our event offerings, you will generally receive a confirmation of participation in the event and of its contents.

We also offer a certificate program along the three "Career Tracks": "Research", "Research Management" and "Business & Organizations". For more information, please see the corresponding page of the certificates. If the currently displayed training course can be credited to one of the three "tracks", this is indicated accordingly.
