The University of Bonn was again able to improve its position in the "Shanghai Ranking". In the comparison among German universities, Bonn was able to maintain fourth place - after the two Munich universities and Heidelberg. The four universities of excellence are the only German universities among the top 100 in the world.
The University of Bonn does particularly well in the performance indicator of high-ranking science awards. Here, it ranks first in Germany, and comes in second in the number of prizes won by alumni.
Since 2003, Jiaotong University Shanghai has been comparing 1,000 universities worldwide in its annual Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), the so-called "Shanghai Ranking." The ranking focuses on research. The six indicators include scientific publications and citations, as well as high-ranking awards such as Nobel Prizes or Fields Medals.
International visibility expanded
The Rector of the University of Bonn, Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c.. Michael Hoch, is pleased about the once again excellent results: "The University of Bonn is among the best universities in Germany, Europe and the world and thus in the best company. Internationally, Bonn is perceived as a location of top-level research." Bonn is the most successful German university in the Excellence Competition: no other university has been able to achieve six clusters of excellence and the status of Excellence University.
