German Language Course (DaF) A1.1

A Doctorate plusBIGS workshop offered by the Bonn Graduate Center 

This competence-based and hands-on language course is aimed at doctoral students who want to cope with everyday life in German and, in particular, want to become competent in academic and work situations.

Online Workshop

Mondays, from 4:30 p.m. till 6:00 p.m.

Starting from October 7, 2024, ending January 27, 2025

In addition, e-learning “vocabulary-package“ for self-learning totaling 20 hours.

Please register your interest in this workshop by September 4, 2024, stating your BIGS affiliation.

Certificate

Participants who complete the entire course will receive a certificate confirming their attendance at the end of the semester. Missing two lessons and one e-learning session will be excused.

Description

Key skills 

Development of social and intercultural communicative competence in the target language, strengthening of learner autonomy and media competence.

Course book

The course book Das Leben A1.1 is used: 

Das Leben - Kurs- und Übungsbuch - A1: Teilband 1 | Cornelsen (print and digital edition in one)

Requirements

Your German language skills will be tested via the onSET online language placement test. The German as a Foreign Language Section will send a TAN upon request for the placement test. The result of the placement test will be sent automatically. Based on this score, we will register you for the appropriate course level if offered.

Content

Participants will attain the level A1.1 of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference) and, upon completion of the course, will be able to:

  • meet and greet a person, and state personal details
    exchange basic information about their family, work, plans, holidays, home, etc.
  • introduce themselves and others in a simple way
  • ask and answer questions in a simple way about ordinary things: shopping, restaurants, cafés, etc.
  • interact with others as long as the other person speaks slowly and clearly
