Using networks. Relationship networks of female power

In addition to conflict and co-operation situations, the conference will also examine the self-image and representation of female elites from the late Carolingians to the early Hohenstaufen dynasty from a temporal and spatial comparative perspective. From the fields of tension resulting from various constellations, mutual dependency relation-ships between rulers and elites can be worked out - also and above all with the ruler's consort, who at the same time had a particularly close relationship with him and was able to fulfil elite tasks such as advising or intercession. Against the background of current trends in aristocratic and elite research in relation to consensual factors of rule or co-petition, the aspects of gender-based or gender-dominated interactions and questions about the self-image of female elites will also be placed in both an interdisciplinary and a transcultural context.
