Tradition dictates that the University of Bonn opens its new academic year on October 18, the anniversary of its founding in 1818. Besides traditional elements such as the ceremonial entry of the members of the Rectorate into the University’s main auditorium, accompanied by the deans and guests from international partner universities in their gowns, Rector Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Michael Hoch will also give an overview of and outlook on the strategic objectives and current challenges for the University of Excellence.
Janna Reif, President of the General Students’ Committee of the University of Bonn, will present the students’ perspective. The event will once again be moderated by students from the campus radio station bonnFM.
One highlight of the program will be “The Wonders of Science.” Subtitled “A Hightech Dig into the Past in Search of Clues,” this part of the proceedings will see researchers from a range of disciplines studied at the University of Excellence give an enlightening insight into their work. Professor Birgit Ulrike Münch, Vice Rector for International Affairs, will also welcome the Bonn University Ambassadors who are in attendance. These are all individuals with close academic and personal ties to the University of Bonn who represent it in their home countries all over the world.
The celebrations will be given musical accompaniment in shape of the Jazz Choir, the International Choir, Collegium musicum and the Campus Brass Ensemble from the Music Forum at the University of Bonn.
There will be simultaneous interpreting into English and into sign language (German).
