After the traditional ceremonial entry of the rectorate and the deans of the faculties, Rector Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Michael Hoch will welcome the guests and proclaim the new vice rectors, a new dean and the members of the senate. He will also report on the current developments at the University of Bonn. For the Federal City of Bonn, Lord Mayor Katja Dörner will speak a word of greeting. The chairman of the General Students' Committee (AStA), Jonathan Andraczek, will speak from the student perspective. Greetings from Bonn's international strategic partner universities will be presented via video messages.
The keynote address, entitled "Roaring 20s in science? The German science system in times of global upheaval" will be delivered by Prof. Dr. Martin Stratmann, President of the Max Planck Society. This will be followed by a panel on "Excellence in Science", in which Prof. Stratmann will be joined by Prof. Dr. Peter Scholze and Prof. Dr. Catharina Stroppel from the Cluster of Excellence "Hausdorff Center for Mathematics". Not least on the occasion of the tragic events of the severe weather catastrophe in mid-July, a further panel will focus on "Climate research and disaster prevention". Participants will include the President of the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (Technisches Hilfswerk, THW), Gerd Friedsam, the Vice Rector of the United Nations University Europe, Prof. Shen Xiaomeng, the Head of Division at the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure, Prof. Dr. Hans Moser, and the University's Vice Rector for Sustainability, Prof. Dr. Annette Scheersoi.
The International Choir and the two university orchestras Camerata musicale and Collegium musicum will provide the musical background for the ceremony, which will be presented via music videos. The trio Ayano Kato (piano), Katerina Chatzinikolau (violin) and Mariana Taipa (cello) will perform live Beethoven's "Archduke's Trio".
