Dr. Andrea Lax-Küten, who heads the German as a Foreign Language section in the International Office, is delighted with the success: “Anyone from abroad who’s applying to study in this country will benefit hugely, because their certificate will now be accepted by all German universities—without exception—as detailed and informative proof of their linguistic aptitude for study.” Many such applicants complete an 18-week preparatory course at the University of Bonn to ready them for the DSH examinations, which are held twice a year.
“The courses are massively important for the people involved and help them get over the hurdle that is the examination,” Lax-Küten says. It also means, she adds, that applicants will no longer need to check whether or not their chosen university accepts the DSH certificate from the University of Bonn. This makes it much easier to embark on a degree program at a German university.
The next DSH examination is scheduled for March 11, 2022, with more information available on the DSH website.
