Femtec's declared goal is to prepare the next generation of female STEM professionals for specialist and management positions in science and industry. To this end, the Femtec career platform has developed the English-language Career-Building Programme, which over a period of three semesters gives 55 selected female students from all partner universities the opportunity to develop their leadership skills with specific workshops, seminars and training sessions. In addition, excursions and innovation workshops enable participants to apply the knowledge they have acquired during their studies in a practical way and prepare them for their everyday professional life.
With the University of Bonn joining the Femtec network, these opportunities are now available specifically to female students of STEM subjects. "Equal opportunities and diversity are key strategic goals of the University of Excellence Bonn. Especially the leap from university into the working world is not always easy. That's why it's great that the Femtec career building programme optimally complements the offers for our female students in STEM subjects and prepares them in the best possible way for the opportunities and challenges in business, science and society. This will reach a new generation of female talents from Bonn who will carry professionalism, creativity and innovative spirit into the world", says Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Michael Hoch, Rector of the University of Bonn.
The Femtec network considers itself in particular as an impulse generator for business, science and society for more equal opportunities, diversity and sustainability. Female talents have already been networking across faculties and universities for over 22 years. This interdisciplinary format in particular is a strength that comes to bear in the numerous formats of the career-building program and promotes innovation. "We are very pleased to have gained such a research-strong and innovative partner in the University of Bonn, which has a very broad spectrum of subjects. This complements our network perfectly and we look forward to working together. The Career-Building Programme will show female STEM students numerous exciting career and networking perspectives," says Marion Zeßner, Managing Director of Femtec.
The success of the program, which has been running since 2001, is due not only to the former participants, most of whom are now successful in business and science, but also to the support of 13 corporate partners such as Deutsche Telekom AG, Procter & Gamble and E.ON.
