Academic Career Development, Workshop & Coaching for Academic Staff from Postdoc to Professor (TRA 4 - Individuals, Institutions and Societies)
This series of six lectures looks at the successes, as well as the failures, in the search of artificial intelligence and uses them as a window into the larger question of what this search can tell us about shifts in how we conceive of what it is to be human. The series will be hosted by Zed Adams and Markus Gabriel.
"A rough guide on religion and othering" The Global Network for Excellence in Theology (G_NET) at the University of Bonn and the Institute for Faith and Flourishing invite you to participate in the "Enemy, Stranger, Neighbor, Friend" 2021 programme (Oct 4- Nov 1, 2021). The Enemy, Stranger, Neighbor, and Friend (ESNF) training programme draws upon our original ESNF Rough Guide on Religion and Othering and your experience in youth-led projects focusing on such topics as: peace and conflict, community building, inclusive practices, and interdenominational and interreligious cooperation. The programme will consist of 5 fundamental capacity-sharing tracks combining theoretical and applied skills focused on the categories of Enemy, Stranger, Neighbor, and Friend. Participation will require approximately 2 hours of work per week for 5 weeks. Live gatherings will be held Mondays 14:30-16:00 Central European Summer Time CEST.
This seminar will revisit our paradigms concerning objectivity in the humanities. To many, it seems as if the humanities provide us at best with less-than-objective knowledge claims. Arguably, there are at least two overall reasons for this. On the one hand, there is a tendency to associate objectivity with the kind of knowledge-acquisition, explanation, and justification characteristic of the natural sciences. On the other hand, the humanities themselves have contributed to the impression that they might be less relevant than the natural sciences to epistemic progress, due to internal discussions about the very concept(s) of knowledge, reality and objectivity. In order to reshape our account of the human being as the source and object of knowledge claims, our seminar will test the following thesis against a variety of objections: we cannot eliminate from our account of reality as such the standpoint from which humans grasp both human and non-human reality.

Full Title: "Undocumented Migrants in Europe and Their Access to COVID-19 Vaccination" The existing Corona pandemic is a challenge on several levels, not only for the European states, but for each and every one of its citizens. For example, most states provide both Corona tests and vaccines free of charge to their populations in order to contain the pandemic. Many citizens, however, who have easy access to these measures, refuse them, believing, for example, in a global pharmaceutical industry conspiracy. Undocumented migrants, on the other hand, are partially or completely excluded from these measures for various reasons. While it is not clear how many undocumented migrants live in Europe, it should also be in the interest of states to let them participate in the protective measures to fight the pandemic more efficiently. However, besides a potential mistrust of these measures, the fear of deportation seems to prevail in the case of undocumented migrants.
The " DenkReise" invites students and young scientists to set out for new shores and to develop new ideas for an ethically founded shaping of the future in different areas of society. At the Center for Life Ethics' House for Young Thought, renowned experts from various disciplines will present their research and ideas for discussion.
