Experiments to explore the microscopic structure of the universe (particle physics). Focal points: Exploration of the Higgs boson, direct and indirect search for fundamentally new physical phenomena (beyond the standard model), new experiments to search for very weakly interacting particles (axions, dark photons). Development of new microstructured gas-filled detectors (GridPix) for use in future particle physics experiments, photon science, neutron science, etc. Accelerator physics with ELSA: new accelerator technologies (laser-plasma acceleration), increase in energy efficiency).
