I am interested in organelle communication and contact site dynamics. My lab studies these dynamics in vivo in neurons of the fruitfly Drosophila melanogaster. We found that peroxisomes control mitochondrial activity (Bülow et al., 2018, Sellin et al., 2018). Moreover, we found that phospholipid exchange between endoplasmic reticulum and mitochondria controls the formation of hydrogen peroxide, which is required for the activity of dopaminergic neurons and controls systemic locomotor ability.
