Special Application Matters
While our Application Guide covers the main ways to apply, special application matters are addressed in this overview that we have put together for you.
Higher program-related semesters / Transfer students
Students switching from other universities who want to continue their studies on their current degree program or students looking to resume their studies after a break.
Underage students
If you are still underage at the time of your application or enrollment at university, there are some things to keep in mind.
Applicants performing military/social service
Applicants who are admitted while performing military or social service are unable to enroll for the time being. They are entitled to be re-admitted.
Studying without Abitur
If you don’t have a university entrance qualification such as the German Abitur but a vocational degree and a few years of work experience, you may still be admitted to university if certain requirements are met.
Applicants from non-EU/EEA countries
If you are from a non-EU/EEA country and would like to pursue an undergraduate degree program at the University of Bonn, you will need to meet a few formal requirements, which are explained in more detail below.
Auditors
Anyone interested in attending individual courses who is not enrolled as a student can be admitted as an auditor within the limitations of available places.
Cross-registered students
Students enrolled at other German universities who are not on a leave of absence can apply to be admitted as cross-registered students.
High-level athletes
Most elite athletes are active at a time in their lives when they are also laying the foundations for their professional career. Balancing an academic education with a career in high-level sport is thus particularly challenging.
Exchanging places with a student at another university
Students admitted to degree programs with nationwide admission restrictions often find themselves sent somewhere they do not want to go. As well as applying for a higher program-related semester in the standard way, you can then try to secure a place at your chosen university by swapping with another student.
Selection by lot
The allocation of places is usually completed before the start of the lecture period in the relevant semester. Any places still remaining at that time are allocated by lot, and anyone who is interested can take part.
