Applicants from non-EU/EEC countries

If you are from a non-EU/EEA country and would like to pursue an undergraduate degree program (bachelor’s degree | State Examination | Church Degree) at the University of Bonn, you will need to meet a few formal requirements, which are explained in more detail below. You will therefore need to read this information carefully before submitting an application so as not to affect your chances of getting a place.

The admission procedures in the Master's programs at the University of Bonn are organized decentrally and are in the responsibility of the faculties/departments.

Pick a degree program

Once you have chosen an undergraduate degree program (bachelor’s degree | State Examination | Church Degree), please read the information on the requisite German language proficiency and the preparatory course for the DSH first of all. Please note the exceptions we apply to German-French and German-Italian Studies as well as to Molecular Biomedicine, Media Studies and Musicology/Sound Studies.

Register on our application portal and complete the online application. Once you have completed the online application, send the application documents by post to the following address:

Send application documents

The documents to be enclosed must be submitted as certified copies, accompanied by a translation where applicable. You can find out which certifications we accept under "Notes on certifications and translations".

If the documents are not received in the required form by the application deadline, your application will not be considered. 

  • Copy of your passport [simple copy]
  • Curriculum vitae in table form, complete up to your application date 
  • If relevant, proof of your recognized refugee/asylum status [simple copy]
  • If relevant, proof of a scholarship from a German institution for the support of gifted students [simple copy]
  • Evidence of your German language proficiency
  • Evidence of English language proficiency: With application for Molecular Biomedicine, Media Studies, Musicology/Sound Studies, Geography, Archaeologies (new) Economics Major (new) and Economics Minor (new)
  • University entrance qualification: You can find information on the equivalence of foreign qualifications on the website of the Central Office for Foreign Education or on the DAAD´s Database on admission requirements
    • Secondary-school graduation certificate, including overview of grades and transcript and German or English translation
    • If applicable, proof that you passed your university entrance examination in your home country for the degree program you are applying for, including an overview of subjects studied and grades obtained + German or English translation
    • If applicable, proof of successful studies, i.e. an overview of subjects studied and grades obtained in each individual semester in your home country + German or English translation
    • If applicable, Certificate of the passed "Feststellungsprüfung" and your pre-education documents + German or English translation
    • If applicable, your university degree + German or English translation

China

Your original accreditation from your Academic Evaluation Center (APS) or your APS certificate together with copies of your original qualifications (secondary-school graduation certificate and certificate of enrollment) from China, bearing the red circular seal and the embossed circular seal of the institution you attended, or copies of your original qualifications bearing the red circular seal together with a notarization bearing the red circular seal and the embossed circular seal of the notary’s office.

Georgia

Evidence of educational background must be submitted together with an apostille.

India

From the summer semester 2023, the APS certificate is required for studying in Germany. A visa application is only possible with the APS certificate. Detailed information about the procedure you can find here.

Turkey

Proof that you passed the university entrance examination/code card must be submitted in the form of an official certificate of results (bearing a seal and signature) from the examination authority that issued it.

U.S.

The University of Bonn’s code for submitting AP examinations is: 9149

Vietnam

The original certificate from the Academic Evaluation Center (APS) must be submitted together with your qualification documents.

IB-Diploma

The "International Baccalaureate Diploma/ Diplôme du Baccalauréat International" is recognized as a university entrance qualification if it has been obtained after attending at least twelve consecutive years in a full-time school and if it meets the conditions of the Agreement on the Recognition of the "International Baccalaureate Diploma/ Diplôme du Baccalauréat International" (Resolution of the Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of 10 March 1986, as amended on 24 March 2022).

 In addition to the IB Diploma, the following documents must be submitted

  • Leaving certificate after the 10th school year.
  • Overview of subjects and grades of the two-year IB program

Einfache Kopie

  • Certification by a notary
  • Certification by an embassy or consulate
  • Certification by the education or foreign ministry in your home country
  • Official certification: In Germany, copies can be officially certified at any local or town council office, among other places.

Certifications not issued in German, English or French will need to be translated.

Translations
Qualifications and other documents (including all stamps, seals and annotations on them) that were not issued in German, English or French will need to be translated by a certified translator or interpreter.

Please note: Your application can only be considered if all necessary application documents have been received by the University of Bonn within the specified deadlines. These deadline are to be understood as cut-off periods (i.e. applications and documents received later cannot be considered).

Exceptions and special requirements

The following degree programs have specific selection procedures. Please contact the degree program coordinators directly for more information:

For the above mention Bachelor's programs English language skills on the level of B2 (CEFR) are required in addition to the required German language skills (DSH 2 or an equivalent exam). The corresponding English language certificate must already be submitted by the application deadline. An exemption from the proof of the English language certificate is only possible if the language of instruction in secondary school or in a completed Bachelor`s degree program was English. Official confirmation from the school/university is required.

  • Internet-based test (iBT): with a minimum score of 72. Test Date Score applies, not MyBest Score.

Please note: TOEFL ITP is not accepted.

Please tell ETS the code number D393 so that your TOEFL score report will be sent directly to the University of Bonn.
