Central Study Advisory and Counseling Service

Impartial. Confidential. Individual.

The Central Study Advisory and Counseling Service is the first port of call at the University for anything to do with studying. We provide information and guidance to current and prospective students in all matters related to choosing a degree program, getting started at university and managing their studies.

As a coordinating unit within the advisory network of the University of Bonn, we work closely with the central advisory and service points, the faculties and the student representatives. We are happy to act as a “signpost” and refer you to the right contact to help with your inquiry.

Whether it is before or during your studies, the team from the Central Study Advisory and Counseling Service is always here to help!

Study advice and counseling

Individual. Confidential. Open-ended.

Whether you prefer a brief consultation or an individual counseling session, we will take your concerns seriously and discuss them with you without any preconceived ideas about the outcome.

Psychological counseling

Solution-oriented. Confidential. Impartial.

In personal meetings, our counselors offer (preventive) advice regarding psychological concerns, insecurities or problems that negatively impact your quality of life or academic success.

Workshops and coaching

Reflect. Find your way. Make a decision.

We support you in making independent decisions, coach you in developing your personal competences and help you build personal resources.

Events and fairs

On campus, off campus and online.

In cooperation with the University departments and other partners, we regularly offer events and fairs for high school students, prospective students, university students and other target groups.

Talent scouting

In schools. Open-ended. Long-term.

The NRW talent scouts program gives highly dedicated and motivated schoolchildren advice and support so that it is no longer social inequalities but the young people themselves who decide what educational journey they want to embark on.

Study orientation

We support prospective students with their study orientation, for instance by helping them to review their individual readiness for university and by providing insights into the realities of university study. Workshops, information events and one-on-one counseling sessions give them the opportunity to reflect on issues related to what lies ahead in terms of university and career choices.

We support you in starting off your studies and successfully settling in at the University of Bonn based on your individual needs. We do not stop there, however, also helping you if you have any general questions, are facing doubts about your studies or want to refine your personal study skills.

Bicycle
You can leave your bicycle at the designated bicycle stands located on the parking lot behind our building.

Public transport
The Central Study Advisory and Counseling Service is located close to the bus/tram stations “Hauptbahnhof Bonn” and “Poppelsdorfer Allee.”

Car
We recommend using one of the parking garages in the city center and then walking to Poppelsdorfer Allee. Anyone with special needs and families with small children can park directly behind our building by prior arrangement.

Information on accessibility and family-friendliness

The Central Study Advisory and Counseling Service’s offices are only accessible to a limited extent. Let us know beforehand what barriers you anticipate, and we will work out a solution that works for you.

Accessible entry:
there is a ramp for wheelchairs and strollers at the back of the building. Please ring the bell, and someone will come and open the door and show you where to go. The elevator inside the building is fairly small and not suitable for all wheelchairs or strollers. You are welcome to contact us in advance so that we can book a ground-floor meeting room for you if need be.

Restrooms:
there is an accessible (unisex) toilet on the ground floor that also has a changing table.

Children:
children are more than welcome at our consultations. We are used to the occasional bit of noise or restlessness when small children come along too and will structure our meeting accordingly. They are also welcome to use the toys and coloring pens that we always keep on hand.
