Midwifery

The dual bachelor’s degree program in midwifery both qualifies students to practice the profession of midwife and awards them a bachelor’s degree when they graduate. It combines theoretical and practical elements, alternating blocks of theory (lectures and seminars) with skills training, simulation training and practical (clinical and non-clinical) job-specific experience to enable graduates to go straight into the profession.

The focus lies on acquiring basic skills in the subject and on personal development geared toward a holistic understanding of the work of a midwife. Rather than looking solely at the birth of a child, this also covers all aspects of pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum and breastfeeding periods. The degree program covers a number of subjects: midwifery proper, natural sciences and medicine, health and social sciences, psychology and ethics. As well as imparting a knowledge of midwifery, teaching the students about psychology and ethics is equally important as this is designed to give them the capability to reflect on and justify their own actions in light of professional ethical values - a vital skill for a midwife. On a professional level, this will set them on the road to seeing things from different points of view.

Please note the different deadlines and information on the application procedure for the Midwifery degree program.
