Plant Sciences

The international degree program Plant Sciences deals with fundamental and applied aspects of this field. The aim of this program is to educate students in the basic areas of plant sciences and then integrate this knowledge into various specialized scientific fields. Students attend courses from the following main areas: Development of Plant Cells and Ultrastructure, Plant Biochemistry, Physiology and Molecular Biology as well as Plant Systematics and Biodiversity. In addition, students may choose from a large variety of lab courses in the following fields: Plant Physiology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology; Transgenic Plants; Biological Diversity, Systematics and Evolution of Plants; Plant Cell Biology; Plant Biotechnology; Paleobotany; Ecology and Nature Conservation.

The Plant Sciences degree program cooperates with facilities external to the University of Bonn such as the Research Center Jülich, the Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding in Cologne and the Universities of Düsseldorf and Cologne.

Possible lines of work:

Academia (teaching/research at universities, research institutions, etc.), basic research in plant biology (universities, institutes of the Max Planck Society, big-science facilities, etc.), development/production/marketing (industrial sector, fields of plant protection and biotechnology, consulting (public authorities, environmental protection organizations)
