Application and Preparation
You have decided to study in Bonn with the Global Exchange Program? Here you will find all the information and forms for your application as well as tips to prepare for your time studying abroad.
Who can apply?
To apply for the Global Exchange Program scheme, you must meet the following requirements:
- You must be currently studying at one of the University of Bonn’s partner universities (your nationality is not important).
- You are interested in studying at the University of Bonn for one or two semesters.
- Bachelor’s degree students: you must have completed at least the first year of your degree program before you begin studying in Bonn.
Students can apply in any academic discipline (excepting medicine and dentistry). Candidates will be selected by their home universities based on a variety of criteria, including academic performance, interests, motivation and language skills.

Application Procedure
If you study at one of the University of Bonn’s partner universities and are planning on spending one or two semesters at the University of Bonn, then please note the following application steps:
Application steps
You must be nominated by your home university for an exchange program via the Mobility-Online portal. Please contact your home university for more details on this. Nominees will be selected by their home universities based on a variety of criteria, including academic performance, interests, motivation and language skills.
Nomination period
For winter semester: March 01 — April 14
For summer semester: September 01 — October 14
Once you have been nominated in a timely manner by your home university, we will send you a personalized link to the Mobility-Online application portal. Please read the registration information on the Mobility-Online website and follow the instructions in the emails that you will be sent after each step of the registration process.
Fill out the application form on the Mobility-Online portal and then upload the required application documents within the application deadline.
The following documents are required for your application:
- Current official transcript from your university (including grade point average and explanation of abbreviations in English)
- Copy of your passport
- Letter of motivation (PDF)24443
Application period
For winter semester: April 01 — May 31
For summer semester: October 01 — November 30
Once the application deadline has closed, the International Office will review the submitted documents, will send you a letter of admission and inform you about all further steps.

Looking for Housing
Students in the Global Exchange Program have the option of reserving a dormitory room when registering in Mobility-Online. All additional information will be sent to you by email after successful application. Students also have the option of seeking a private residence.
