Hybrid course

This course is held in a hybrid format on site in classrooms and online. Participants attend lessons both in the classrooms on Adenauerallee 10 (53113 Bonn, 3rd and 4th floor) and online via Zoom.

However, it is important to take turns: attending in person only (Roomies) or online only (Zoomies) will not be possible!

The attendance plan for the hybrid lessons will be coordinated with the teacher at the start of the course.

• Important note! If you have not participated in a German course of the International Office in the last 2 semesters, it is obligatory to take a placement test before registration. Without the result of the placement test or the course certificate (not older than 2 semesters), registration is unfortunately not possible.
• Places are assigned in the order that applications are received. There is no waiting list for courses that are fully booked.
• You will receive email confirmation of your registration.
• After registration, visiting international academics will receive a further email asking them to make the payment.

Your German language skills will be tested via the onSET online language placement test. You will receive a TAN for the placement test upon request from the German as a Foreign Language Section (by email) by September 27, 2024, before registration. The result of the placement test will be sent automatically – the score is important for the registration! You can then register for the appropriate sub-level online.

Level A1.1

A course for participants with little or no previous knowledge of the German language. Here, you will learn basic communication skills, how to find your way in everyday situations, and how to ask and answer simple questions. Besides basic vocabulary and techniques of verbal expression about topics like family, work, leisure time and nutrition, you will also gain insights into numbers, prices and times of day in German. You will practice reporting on everyday events in the present tense in simply structured sentences.

Level A1 - Online Teach-Yourself Course with Tutoring Sessions

This intensive online teach-yourself course will take you up to A1 level in a semester with support from a tutor. It is designed for participants with A1.1 level German (i.e. with no or only minimal prior knowledge).
