Wolfram Barfuss
Dr. Wolfram Barfuss is Argelander Professor for Integrated Systems Modeling for Sustainability Transformation. Looking at challenges between professions and disciplines, beyond traditional boundaries, developing integrated models and organizing joint research work, all of this is the essence of Dr. Wolfram Barfuss' Argelander Professorship.
Researching together
"We are doing basic research into how we can live well together with nature. The challenge that excites me is the combination of a problem that I am happy to stand up for - the sustainability problem - and basic research and, last but not least, bringing different disciplines together. Because the sustainability problem is one that the natural sciences cannot solve alone, that the social sciences cannot solve alone, that the humanities cannot solve alone. Everyone has to do it together."

Models help. When they simplify.
Models are meant to simplify. Only by reducing complexity does the model make clear what is not even recognizable in the full complexity of a matter. The neuron plush toy that Wolfram Barfuss brought with him represents the information processing in the individual brain, which influences collective decisions.
