Vice Rectorate for Research and Early-Career Scientists

As Vice-Rector for Research at the University of Bonn, Ilona Grunwald oversees research and the affairs of early-career scientists. Her responsibilities as Vice-Rector include implementing the measures of the Excellence Strategy, quality assurance in research, the provision and optimization of research infrastructure, the promotion and expansion of interdisciplinary research networks, cross-university collaboration in the context of TRAs as well as the cooperation with research institutions outside the University. Another important focus is the promotion of young scientists and the development of sustainable scientific career paths.

Strategy

The University stands for excellence in research across the full spectrum of academic disciplines, such as the humanities and social sciences, mathematics and natural sciences, agriculture and medicine. This strength is based on outstanding expertise in the core academic disciplines and exceptional interaction and cooperation between disciplines. This cooperation has been integrated in our Transdisciplinary Research Areas. We promote research creativity and independence of our early-career scientists by creating an environment of responsibility and providing targeted support.

Strategic Development and Quality Assurance

 The Strategic Development and Quality Assurance unit provides support for the Rectorate and develops processes for strategic development and change. The employees in the unit manage projects and duties that are important for the University as a whole and have university-wide project and quality management responsibilities.
Key areas of work: 

  • Developing research priorities (Transdisciplinary Research Areas, TRAs) and the University profile in accordance with the Excellence Strategy
  • Implementing strategic development projects
  • Providing strategic support for the Clusters of Excellence
  • Providing support to University management for the strategic development of quality management
  • Providing support for collaborative projects in close cooperation with Research and Innovation Services
