Three of the new ambassadors received their appointment certificates personally during a visit to Bonn: Prof. Dr. Tiegist Abebe, a plant breeding and genetics expert from Bahir Dar University in Ethiopia, Prof. Dr. Koichiro Agata, administrative scientist from Waseda University in Japan; and Prof. Dr. Roberto Hofmeister Pich, professor of philosophy at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil.
The selected international scientists have gotten to know the University of Bonn intensively during research stays. Today, they are working at research institutions abroad. In their function as "Bonn University Ambassadors", they will represent the University of Bonn and serve at their current place of work as the first point of contact for junior researchers interested in coming to Bonn.
By introducing the "Bonn University Ambassadors", the University of Bonn pursues various goals. Firstly, it is a contribution to expand the University’s global network with multipliers and local contact persons. On the other hand, the aim is to increase the visibility of the University of Bonn as an internationally oriented research university. Rector Hoch says: "It is a great sign of close ties with our University that these renowned scientists have agreed to represent the University of Bonn all over the world. This means a further clear strengthening of our international networks. I am firmly convinced that this is an important element to inspire and attract the next generation of outstanding researchers from all over the world to the University of Bonn."
The new ambassadors will be accessible to junior researchers at their locations and provide information about Bonn and the funding opportunities and career paths for international researchers. The appointment is linked to the partnership strategy of the University of Bonn.
