Opening of the Academic Year

The traditional ceremony on the 18th of October is the central celebration at the beginning of every academic year at the University of Bonn since its founding year in 1818.

First-Semester-Welcome

The annual First-Semester-Students' Welcome event at the beginning of the winter semester is the official, central welcoming event for first-semester-students at the University of Bonn.

We were the first traditional German university to introduce a central graduation ceremony with the Bonn University Festival, at which all graduates appear in gowns and berets.

200 years of the University of Bonn

The 200th anniversary of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn took place on 18 October 2018 with a grand ceremony at the WCCB in the presence of the Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
