The opening of the academic year 2024/2025 at the University of Bonn
The University of Bonn will start the new academic year 2024/25 with a ceremony in the auditorium of its main building on Friday, October 18, at 5 p.m.
Traditionally anchored elements such as the ceremonial entry of the rectorate and the deans in gowns, proclamations, the commemoration of our deceased university members and the rector's review and outlook have been part of the opening of the Academic Year for many decades.
The students, represented by their AStA chairperson, also publicly comment on the current situation of the university and the moderation will be taken over by students of the campus radio bonnFM.
All members of the university - especially students - as well as the media and all interested citizens are cordially invited to take part in the celebration.
History and tradition
The gown, beret, chain of office and scepter have always played a central role in the formal opening ceremony.
