Vokalensemble des Collegium musicum: Musical encounters

The vocal ensemble of the Collegium musicum presents two final concerts in Germany and one final concert in France under the title: “Musikalische Begegnungen - Rencontres musicales”. Under the direction of Ansgar Eimann, you will hear works by Bach, Poulenc, Sweelinck and Tallis, and of course you are welcome to take the third concert as an opportunity for a short trip to idyllic Strasbourg.

Admission is free, donations are requested. A ticket reservation is necessary under free_ticket_reservation_vocal_ensemble .

hofgartenORCHESTER: Symphony concert “Faces of Nature”

The hofgartenORCHESTER cordially invites you to their symphony concert “Faces of Nature” on 30.06.24 and 07.07.24. Antonín Dvořák's “In Nature” op.91 and Jean Sibelius' Symphony No. 1 in E minor op.39 will be performed. Admission begins half an hour before the start of each concert.

A foreword by the ensemble:

^{A “fantastic program” awaits us in the coming summer semester, which, like today's “Between the Worlds”, wanders. We invite you on a journey on the trail of fantasy and reality.}

^{With Antonín Dvořák's Waldtaube op. 110, we pick up where we left off last winter semester. After his 9th Symphony, Dvořák did not compose any more symphonies. However, after his return from America, he apparently felt the need to demonstrate his skills with a few symphonic poems. The Wood Dove is the last of these works in the cycle op.107-op.110 (The Water Sprite, The Midday Witch, The Golden Spinning Wheel and The Wood Dove) and the penultimate piece that Dvořák ever wrote. The composer was inspired by the ballad collection Kytice (Bouquet of Flowers) by Karol Jarmor Erben. Here, Dvořák pulls out all the stops in the art of orchestration. The Wood Dove is very colorfully orchestrated and even has a larger orchestra than his symphonies.}

^{Paul Dukas' L' Apprenti sorcier is based on Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's ballad The Sorcerer's Apprentice. The composer takes us into the world of the young sorcerer's apprentice, who can no longer get rid of the spirits he called.
Jean Sibelius created the 7th Symphony, originally called Phantasia Sinfonica, based on themes from sketches for the unfinished tone poem Kuutar (female moon spirit). Composed in one movement, this unusual and all too rarely performed work reveals the composer's imagination and takes us into the world of Nordic myths.
The finale of the concert could not be more fitting than with the film music to Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by John Williams in a suite composed by the composer himself.}

Orchestra of the Collegium musicum

Farrenc's Concert Overture No. 2, Schumann's Piano Concerto in A minor, Holmès' “Allegro Feroce” and Beach's “Gaelic” Symphony - how many of these pieces do you know? If at most the name “Schumann” means something to you, then you are like many members of the Collegium musicum Bonn orchestra before the start of this summer semester. There are many reasons why the works of Louise Farrenc, Clara Schumann, Augusta Holmès and Amy Beach are a rarity in symphonic programs - but it's certainly not because of the great music!

In the end-of-semester concerts in July, the Collegium musicum Bonn orchestra presents a program of these works by (female) composers only, all from the 19th century. Discover this music together with the musicians of the orchestra - passionate, energetic, lyrical, dramatic - and let us convince you: you don't need the “big names” for a successful concert evening.
