Topic: New Approaches to Services for Students and Staff at Universities

The Staff Week provided a platform for a lively exchange on these and other questions with colleagues from other countries and the University of Bonn. The University of Bonn also presented a range of its services to students, scientists and staff.

The Staff Week participants had the opportunity to get to know the University of Bonn, which was founded in 1818 and has been a University of Excellence since 2019, and its home in the “UN city” of Bonn.

The program also included a visit to the traditional botanical gardens of the University of Bonn and a guided tour of the old government district on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of our constitution. Participation in our Study and Internship Abroad fair and individual job shadowing sessions rounded off the successful program.

Program

Day 1/ Welcome and orientation

After an official welcome, participants are given the opportunity to get to know each other, present their posters and attend an entertaining introduction to German language and culture(s). The keynote address introduces the topic of service provision.

Day 2/ Discussion of the concept and provision of services

During the morning session a range of units from the University of Bonn present their services. The afternoon sessions are devoted to discussing relevant issues within a chaired “World Café”.

Day 3/ Study and Internship Abroad Fair

Participants are given the opportunity to present their university at the Study and Internship Abroad Fair and to meet students from their institution studying at the University of Bonn.

Day 4/ Individual work shadowing and excursion

On Thursday morning, participants have the opportunity to visit University of Bonn staff and shadow their workplace and find out how they approach their role in a similar setting. The day is rounded off by an excursion in Bonn and its environs in the afternoon and a farewell dinner in the evening.

Day 5/ Lessons learned and farewell

On the last day, we summarize impressions and results of the week. All participants will receive a certificate of participation.
