W3-Professorship for Biomedical Data Science

is to be filled as part of a joint appointment according to the Jülich model.

We are looking for an internationally proven personality (m/f/d) in the field of data-driven translational medical research. The holder of the position (m/f/d) is to cooperate with clinical and central units in the Faculty of Medicine as well as university and non-university institutions. The job holder represents the field in research and teaching at the University of Bonn and, at the same time, takes on corresponding scientific and economic responsibility at Fraunhofer SCAI, where they are to establish and manage a new working group. The content-related focus should lie on the development and application of new methods of machine learning or generative artificial intelligence in biomedicine (e.g., to identify therapeutic target structures, in precision medicine, or the further development of clinical trials).

Alongside excellent technical expertise and publications, the job holder is expected to have experience in successfully acquiring national and international third-party funding and extensive
experience in independent research group management. Acquiring and handling industrial contracts and maintaining cooperative relationships with business are expected, proven experience is an advantage. A connection to the research foci and consortia (CRCs and Cluster of Excellence) of the Faculty of Medicine and University Hospital Bonn an, other faculties at the University of Bonn, in particular the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, and to non-university institutions is desired. Experience in teaching in German and English and in providing academic support to employees is required.

The successful candidate must have experience in managing a scientific working group, experience in interdisciplinary cooperation, the active acquisition of third-party funding, and a habilitation or equivalent qualifications in accordance with section 36 of the NRW university law. In addition, experience with clinical project partners is an advantage. Active involvement in teaching digital literacy for students of human medicine and other degree programs in the Faculty of Medicine and in the graduate schools is explicitly desired.
